MUSIC

Before starting my studies at the University of Helsinki I studied music at the Helsinki Pop-Jazz conservatory

I am still a professional level pop-jazz drummer and percussionist, active in various bands and as a free-lance musician. I now have the privilege to be part of the high quality music projects I want, while not having to do the stuff I don't feel that proud of. I am extremely grateful for this chance. Let's see how long I can keep it up tho'...

I am the resident drummer in ELM and Elmeriband. You can see and hear me play on audio and video accessed via www.elmeriband.info - sites.

Scottish pipe-band snare drumming is my main hobby. I play and perform with The Helsinki Pipes and Drums highland bagpipe band. I just competed in the Scandinavian Pipe Band Championships and became 3rd in my heat. Got to practise more...

Last summer I won Scandinavian Champion of Champions Pipe Band and Scandinavian Champion Drum Core titles with the Pipes and Drums of the First Royal Engineers of Stockholm, Sweden, as well as competed in the Scottish Pipe Band Championships in Dumbarton, Scotland.

Although having been a student in Helsinki Pop-Jazz conservatory I consider having learned most in the one-to-one lessons I have had from Raimo "Rami" Eskelinen, Jari Kettunen, Sami Kuoppamäki, Harri Ala-Kojola, "Arska" Himberg and Tommi Rautiainen.

Peter Erskine is my idol. His books and recordings have been my guiding light with regards to drumming musicianship.

I started playing drums approximately at the age of 14. I practised a lot as a kid, sometimes even 8 to 11 hours a day. I now think that practising a maximum of 6 hours a day, divided to 3 sessions, with long breaks in between is more realistic with regards to ability to concentrate and actually learning something.

I am a chill out music addict.
